Vernon W. Fox, age 79, went with our Lord to be re-united with his loving wife Joyce, on April 1, 2014. He passed peacefully at Webster Manor in Omro, WI.
He was born in Pickett, WI on June 10, 1934, the youngest of ten children to George and Anna Fox.
He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce E. Sinner on November 14, 1970.
Butch, as he is known to most, was a huge sports enthusiast with his favorite sport being baseball. He treasured his personally signed baseball from Pete Rose, along with other baseball memorabilia. In his youth, Butch played hockey and baseball. He was also a golfer and bowler. He and Joyce loved boating and took pride in refinishing an older Dunphy boat for show. He and Joyce loved to travel, visiting U.S. historic sites. ButchÂ's hobby was tinkering in the garage on various projects. In later years, while living at ArborView and Webster Manor, Butch liked playing Bingo, planting in the flower gardens and attending the parties.
Surviving are his two step-sons, Arthur J. and Kenneth D. Nelson of Oshkosh; three sister-in-laws; Jane (George) Fox of Oshkosh; Lorraine Rath of Watsonville, California and Bonnie Lee Farrer of Albuquerque, New Mexico. His is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
His parents and his wife, Joyce, preceded him in death, as well as all his siblings: John (Eleanor) Fox, George Fox, Marie (Vernon) Cartwright, Esther (Lyle) Hansen, Cerella (Orin) Eliner, Edward Fox, Arnold (Janet) Fox, Oliver Fox, and Dora Mae Fox.
A memorial service in celebration of ButchÂ's life will be held at the Fox Cities Funeral Home, 3026 Jackson St., Oshkosh, on Monday, April 7, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.
A special thank-you to Lyne Shaffer and her staff at Webster Manor for the excellent care given to Vernon and for making "a home" for him. Thank you to the Heartland Hospice Care team for giving comfort in his final days.
Butch will be deeply missed by his sons and by his niece and long-time care giver, Sue Spanbauer, and her husband Tom.
May he rest in peace in the arms of the Lord.
