William E. Benson, age 67 of Town of Nekimi, died on Wednesday August 19, 2009. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 27, 1942 the son of the late Clarence and Dorothy (Williams) Benson. On July 9, 1966 he married Rogene Rehwinkel at Grace Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. Bill enjoyed his Wednesday morning Bible Study, his breakfast buddies, Tuesday night pizza, Wednesday night rides, Diet Pepsi with no ice, playing Canasta with his friends, and was always on the lookout for a good bargain. During the Christmas Season, he looked forward to playing the role of Santa Claus for the children. He is survived by his wife Rogene, his daughter, Kari (Bob) Steinhilber, sons, William "Buck" (Billie Jo Searl), Darrell ( Carrie), Bradley, Ryan (Adrianne), grandchildren, McCara, Marsden, Mason and Merrin Steinhilber, Cierra Myers, Tasha, Aiden, Kaitlyn and Kylie Benson, brother, Jack (Diane) Benson of Wautoma, sisters-in-law, Elaine Fruth of Elm Grove, WI, Beverly (Erling) Carmichael of LaCrescent, Minnesota, Kathy (Bob) Poehlman, nieces and nephews, Dean, Joe, Morey and Wendy Benson, Lisa and Scott Carmichael, Rachel Schriver, numerous other relatives and many close friends. A Funeral Service for Bill will be held on August 23, 2009 at 6:00 pm at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church (913 Nebraska St. Oshkosh) with Pastors Gregg Schoeneck and Chadwick Graham officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday from 2:00 pm until time of service at 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Bill's name is being established. He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
