William "Colonel Bill" Dougherty, age 71, of Oshkosh, died Friday morning, April 2, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center. Bill was born October 11, 1938, in Oshkosh, the son of Melvin and Marcella (Kelly) Dougherty. He was educated in and graduated from High School in the Oshkosh School System. Bill married the former Betty Jane Krueger on May 9, 1964 at First English Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. He had worked for many years and retired as a custodian from the Oshkosh School System. Bill had many passions in life. One of his greatest joys was playing tuba in his polka band. He was also a part time auctioneer. Bill was affectionately known as "Colonel Bill" by many of his colleagues and students.
Bill is loved and will be missed by his wife, Betty Jane Dougherty of Oshkosh; sister, Mary Dougherty of Oshkosh; brother, Mike (Nancy) Dougherty of Florida and Wild Rose; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Irwin "Boots" Dougherty.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at First English Lutheran Church, 1013 Minnesota St., Oshkosh at 10:30 A.M.
