On August 8, 2023, after a lengthy and hard-fought battle with COPD (emphysema) and A-Fib, William A "Bill," "Buzz" LaPointe, Sr., age 82, passed away at home with his family surrounding him with love.
He was born on January 3, 1941, to parents, Raymond LaPointe, and Elaine LaPointe-Anderson nee Butler, in Ashland, Wisconsin.
Bill went to DePadua High School, in the class of 1929. He was united in marriage to Sharon Kunde on July 21, 1973.
He was a roofer for many years, having worked with Winkler Roofing, Dadas Roofing and Lakewood Roofing.
Bill loved knitting and making up his own patterns. Almost every family member had a sweater, Afghan or Lapghan. He knitted scarves for the Boy's and Girl's Club, and Lapghans for the YMCA Daycare, and hospice at Cherry Meadows in Appleton. Bill was a loyal Cubs fan since 1948 and lived to see them take the pennant in 2016. He was also an avid Badger football and basketball fan. He loved doing crossword puzzles and above all, spending time with his 2 grandsons, who were his pride and joy.
Survivors include the love of his life, Sharon; daughters, Barb "Pook or Chipmunk cheeks," LaPointe, Jeri Ann Kunde; his treasured grandsons, Dakoda LaPointe and Raymond LaPointe-Mitchell; brother, Hilary "Tick" LaPointe; a special niece, Stephanie "Skeezicks" Hillhouse; and a very special friend, Jamie Zuelhke, who is considered family. He is further survived by various nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond "Charge" LaPointe; and son William A. "Buzz" LaPointe Jr.
Visitation will be held August 15, 2023, from 5:00pm-7:00pm, at Fox Cities Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3026 Jackson St., Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Bad River Cemetery, in Odanah, Wisconsin.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Daniel Kaiser of Theda Care, for his excellent care of Bill. They would also like to thank the Oshkosh Fire Department, the Oshkosh Police Department, and the Winnebago County Coroner, for their patience, compassion and understanding during this trying time.
We love you Bill, Dad, and Papa.
