William A. "Bud" Smith, age 88, of Oshkosh, died peacefully Monday evening, August 29, 2011, at Northpoint Medical & Rehab. He was born on September 1, 1922, in Westfield, Wisconsin. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1941. Bud married Joan Behrend on November 28, 1942, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. He served his country during WWII in the US Navy. In his younger years, he was active in the Algoma Blvd. United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, boxing, and ice hockey. He volunteered at the YMCA. Bud loved being a grandparent. He was the Business Agent for Painters Local 145 for 25 years before his retirement.
Bud will be missed by his sons, Dennis Smith, of Oshkosh, and Michael (Kathleen) Smith, of Rhinelander; grandchildren, Wendy (Dan Thurston) Smith, Tara Litzke, Holly Larch; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Isabella, Elizabeth, Hope, Paige, Tyler, and Haile; special friends, Alma Fitzpatrick and her daughter, Missy Krause, who both helped and cared for Bud and Joan; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; his parents, and brothers and sister. Funeral Services for Bud will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 12:00 P.M., at Fox Cities Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 A.M. until time of services on Tuesday. The family would like to thank Aurora Hospice and VNA for their gentle and loving care.
